Berkshire Country Day School

EARLY CHILDHOOD DIVISION CURRICULA

2002 - 2003

BEGINNER 3s

Teachers: Andrea Patel and Maria Whalen

The Beginner 3s class at Berkshire Country Day School is designed to provide a framework where children can “learn by doing” in a safe and nurturing environment. The program is based on a developmentally appropriate curriculum so that every child meets with success and feels valuable, competent and supported. Each child’s individual knowledge and skills enriches our program as we explore our environment together.

We will focus on problem solving, decision making and social skills as we develop our congenial community. The curriculum will provide a foundation for pre-math and pre-reading skills to help the child develop intellectually at an age-appropriate level. Open-ended questions, varied art projects, music, and movement encourage imaginative minds at work. Activities such as drawing, painting, puzzles and small manipulatives promote fine-motor skills. Our music program provides for creative movement within the classroom, and our weekly visit to the library fosters early literacy. Utilizing the playground as well as having a weekly period in the gym allows gross motor skills to develop. Our goal is to create a well-balanced curriculum that will encourage and support the cognitive, social, emotional and physical development of each child.
