With Thanksgiving just around the corner, we have let our dragons sleep for a week. This week we are talking about Thanksgiving and Pilgrims. We asked the children why the Pilgrims came to America. These were the reasons they thought of.

They were gonna fight.

They wanted to find a new country.

They were looking for something (treasure).

They wanted a better land.

They were traveling to see what it was like here.

They wanted to find food.

They came to help the police catch bad guys.

They wanted to discover something.

They came to fight the Americans.

They didn't like the place they lived in.

We have been spending time reading and talking about the first Thanksgiving and why the Pilgrims were thankful. We talked about what thankful means and got a lot of different interpretations. We made our own Pilgrims and wrote what we were thankful for. We have also been very busy making different kinds of turkeys .

The K-Kids made Pilgrims to show all the things they are thankful for this year. They are on our bulletin board, but here are a few of them to give you an idea of what they look like.

The K-Kids are thankful for:

  • snowboarding and rocket power

  • Jesus

  • My family and my dog

  • my brother and sister

  • my mom

  • my parents

  • my parents

  • my mother

  • bread and butter

  • my family and my holiday

  • skateboarding

  • mom and dad

  • my dad

  • skateboarding

We made Native American Headbands - with real turkey feathers and a few Pilgrim hats

We made a beautiful paper quilt for November. It has turkeys and maple leaves on it. This idea came from our friend Victoria Smith. We also made hanging combination turkey and Native Americans. They are made from paper plates and share the feathers in the middle. We made delicious cranberry bread after reading "Cranberry Thanksgiving". The recipe is the same one used in the book.

Everyone enjoyed joining with the entire school for Thanksgiving Soup on Wednesday.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
